Made famous by the Japanese pearl cultivator Koichi Mikimoto, Akoya pearls are the iconic cultured pearls that come to mind when the word pearl is mentioned. Taking up to 1 year to grow to sizes from 4-9mm, Akoya cultured are typically round to semi round in shape, and cream to white in color. Akoya pearls are renown for their intense luster.
